Our Team

We're the folks you run into at the corner sub shop or buying a cup of coffee at the convenience store. We think practical is way of life, not a trendy phrase in a down economy. We focus on what matters (to you) and put that focus into every project.

Jerry Novotny, PE

Jerry Novotny, a licensed mechanical and electrical engineer, brings his years of experience and deep understanding of all aspects of building systems to find practical, integrated solutions that exceed expectations not budgets.

A Chicago native, Jerry graduated in 1968 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Physics from The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. He worked as an electrical engineer for the Navy in California and Washington DC focusing on controls and explosive environments. During this time he began his study of mechanical systems. After traveling across the West for two years skiing and fly fishing, he took a job as a consulting electrical engineer with a firm in Boulder. In 1976 he obtained his Professional Engineering license and started his own consulting firm. With his strong background in physics, he taught himself plumbing and mechanical engineering, becoming one of the few engineers who, by understanding all aspects of building systems, can provide truly integrated MEP design services. He started The Boulder Engineering Company in 1985. Jerry loves putting to good use his extensive experience to help clients find the optimum solution to difficult problems. Occasionally he can be seen riding his 1970 BSA or 1981 BMW motorcycle around town on his way to places he has no business going.
